Our Standards
We strive to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA standards published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). These guidelines outline how to make web content more accessible to people with a wide range of disabilities, including visual, auditory, physical, speech, cognitive, language, learning, and neurological disabilities.
Our accessibility efforts are guided by the four WCAG principles — content should be Perceivable, Operable, Understandable, and Robust.
What We Do
We take the following measures to ensure accessibility across our digital properties:
Website & Content
- Semantic HTML markup for proper screen reader interpretation
- Descriptive alt text on all meaningful images
- Sufficient color contrast ratios for text and interactive elements
- Resizable text without loss of content or functionality
- Clear, consistent navigation and page structure
- Descriptive link text that makes sense out of context
Patient Portal
- Keyboard-navigable forms and interactive elements
- ARIA labels and roles for dynamic content
- Clear error messages and form validation feedback
- Session timeout warnings with options to extend
- Compatible with popular screen readers (JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver)
Telehealth Platform
- Closed captioning available for video consultations upon request
- Audio-only telehealth options for patients with visual impairments
- Accommodations for patients who use assistive communication devices
- Alternative scheduling methods (phone, email) for those who cannot use the online system
Documents & Media
- PDF documents structured for screen reader accessibility
- Alternative formats available upon request (large print, audio)
- Video content captioned or with transcripts where available
ADA & Healthcare Accommodations
In accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, Kure Health provides reasonable accommodations to ensure equal access to our healthcare services. Accommodations may include:
Sign language interpretation (ASL) for appointments
Large print or Braille materials upon request
Wheelchair-accessible facilities
Extended appointment times for patients who need them
Alternative communication methods
Service animal accommodation
Assistance completing forms and paperwork
Interpreter services for non-English speakers
To request an accommodation, please contact us at least 48 hours before your appointment when possible. We will make every reasonable effort to fulfill your request.
Ongoing Efforts
Accessibility is an ongoing effort, not a one-time project. We are committed to continuous improvement through:
- Regular accessibility audits of our website and digital platforms
- Staff training on accessibility best practices and disability awareness
- Incorporating accessibility requirements into our development process
- Engaging with users who have disabilities to understand their needs
- Monitoring emerging accessibility standards and technologies
- Promptly addressing accessibility issues when they are identified
Known Limitations
While we strive for full accessibility, some content may not yet be fully accessible. Known limitations include:
- Some older PDF documents may not be fully optimized for screen readers — contact us for accessible alternatives
- Third-party embedded content (such as maps or external widgets) may not meet our accessibility standards
- Some interactive data visualizations may have limited accessibility — text alternatives are provided where possible
We are actively working to address these limitations. If you encounter a barrier, please let us know and we will provide the information in an alternative format.
