Understanding SNPs, CpG Sites, and Methylation
A no-jargon explanation of the common terms used in genetic and epigenetic reports.
By Kure Health Clinical Education Team · Reviewed September 22, 2026
Short answer
SNPs are common differences at individual positions in DNA. CpG sites are locations where methylation is often measured. These are data points; their meaning comes from validated models and clinical context.
More data is not automatically more certainty
A test can analyse millions of sites, but clinical value depends on quality control, the model used, replication, and whether the result answers a useful question.
From markers to interpretation
AgeCode Premier analyses more than 1.8 million SNPs and up to 3 million CpG sites. Kure focuses the review on interpretable patterns and limitations rather than treating every marker as actionable.
What this means at Kure
AgeCode is one layer of Signal-Based Medicine. We review inherited architecture and methylation patterns alongside current symptoms, history, medications, standard laboratory findings, and other diagnostics. A report supports a clinical conversation; it does not make the decision alone.
Educational information only. Genomic and epigenetic associations do not diagnose disease or guarantee an outcome. Do not change medication or treatment without a qualified clinician.
