Root Causes
Your thyroid gland produces mostly T4, which must be converted to active T3 — and 20% of that conversion happens in your gut. Selenium is required for conversion enzymes. Iron is needed for thyroid hormone production. Environmental toxins can block thyroid receptors. Autoimmune antibodies can destroy the gland. A TSH test tells you almost nothing about this cascade.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why do I still feel bad if my TSH is normal? TSH only tells you what your pituitary thinks about your thyroid. It doesn't tell you about T4 to T3 conversion, Reverse T3 blocking, autoimmune destruction, or nutrient cofactors. 'Normal TSH' does not mean optimal thyroid function.
Should I take iodine for my thyroid? Only if testing confirms deficiency. In Hashimoto's members, excess iodine can actually worsen the autoimmune attack. This is why testing before supplementing is critical — and why generic thyroid protocols can be harmful.
Can thyroid problems cause weight gain? Yes. Hypothyroidism slows metabolism, impairs fat burning, and causes fluid retention. But thyroid-related weight gain is often compounded by insulin resistance and cortisol dysfunction — which is why treating thyroid alone may not fully resolve weight issues.
